Worksheet Zoom

Preview50–200%, whole percentages. Only the worksheet scales; browser zoom, app controls, stored column widths, row heights, values and Undo remain unchanged. 100% resets this view. Zoom to Selection is not implemented.

Verify an external safety copy — private

Read-only comparison of one selected local New/Open/Restore safety record and an explicitly chosen external JSON file. This cannot delete, import or restore anything. An observed match is not a permanent external-retention guarantee.

Import a safety backup — private

Retain an exact New, Open or Restore safety-backup JSON file in this browser. This does not restore or replace the workbook. Checkpoint backups, ordinary exports and Excel files are not supported. Existing records are never overwritten or deleted.

Choose simulator JSON

Private current-export JSON only, not Excel files or recovery packets. Choosing and previewing does not replace your workbook. Cancel keeps it unchanged.

Replace simulator workbook

Save a new workbook checkpoint?

Your current workbook may already be saved. This optional checkpoint makes room for future history; it is not required to save unchanged contents. Nothing is cleared unless you explicitly confirm below and a recovery backup is verified first.

This explicitly clears all older worksheet and workbook Undo/Redo, including worksheet visibility history. Current cell values, formulas, formatting, notes, links, validation, conditional formatting, sheet identities and visibility stay unchanged. You cannot Undo back across this checkpoint.

Pending editor text is backed up but not committed to a cell. A complete local IndexedDB recovery backup must finish and pass exact read-back before saved workbook replacement. It can be viewed or downloaded later using Saved workbook backups. Automatic import/restore is not implemented.

Use one tab. Web Locks coordinate only participating app tabs, not older clients. Local backups can be lost if browser/site data is cleared or evicted; a download request does not prove delivery. Cancel makes no backup or workbook change.

Saved workbook backups

Local recovery records only. View or request a download; no automatic import or restore is implemented. Browser/site-data removal can erase these backups. A download request does not verify delivery.

Worksheet visibility

Workbook Statistics

Read-only snapshot at opening, across all worksheets including hidden sheets. Entries include zero, false and formulas, even formulas returning empty text. Blank and formatting-only records are not entries. Stored cell records are not Excel UsedRange; row/column formatting and gaps are not counted as cells. No formulas are evaluated; projected spill results are not stored entries.

By worksheet

Evaluate Formula — scalar steps

Read-only simulator teaching, not full Excel evaluation. Next reduces one operation in a normalized, fully parenthesized expression; this is not an underline of the original formula. Literal values, references, parentheses and scalar arithmetic only. Functions, ranges, arrays, comparisons and formula-dependency Step In are not stepped. Physical blank labels are explanatory, not formula syntax. No cell, Undo or grading changes.

Error Checking — selected range

Read-only simulator results, not Excel validation. Select a range before opening. Nothing is fixed or graded. Previous and Next browse findings; Select cell only changes worksheet selection.

Insert Function

Search the supported chooser subset. Arguments are formula expressions: use cell references or ranges, numbers, or quoted text. This creates an ordinary editable draft, not a completed answer. Existing cell content stays unchanged until normal commit. Continue replaces the editor draft; Cancel preserves the cell. Point/edit hands the selected argument to the normal formula bar. Other registry functions and full Excel Function Arguments behavior are not all offered here.

Draft preview

Cell link

Plain Free Practice links, separate from cell text/formulas. Ctrl+K edits; Save never navigates. Only explicit http/https URLs or visible local sheet cells are supported. No email, files or scripts. Links stay at original addresses during Copy/Paste/Formats/Painter; Cut and layout changes with links are refused. Clear Hyperlinks keeps cell text; Clear All removes selected links.

Local note

Plain-text notes in this Free Practice workbook only, not threaded Comments. Maximum 2,000 characters per note and 65,536 per sheet. Save applies; Cancel or Escape discards this draft. Empty Save deletes the note. Shift+F2 opens editing. Notes stay at their original addresses: Copy/Paste, Values, Formats and Painter do not copy or replace notes. Clear Contents and Clear Formats keep them; Clear All removes selected notes. Layout-changing operations with notes are currently refused.

Tab Color

Free Practice tab accent only. Cell values, formulas, names and order stay unchanged. No Color removes the accent. The active tab and keyboard focus remain separately indicated. This palette does not claim Office theme or gradient parity. Color participates in workbook Undo after an explicit visibility upgrade; ordinary workbooks retain sheet-local Undo.

Fill Series

Paste Special

Values uses calculated results captured when copied, keeping destination formatting. Formulas copies content with relative references adjusted, keeping destination formatting. Formats changes only supported appearance properties, preserving destination contents.

Practice subset: internal workbook clipboard only. Boolean and error results cannot yet be pasted as literal values. Values + Transpose swaps rows/columns of captured results only, preserves destination formatting and replaces blanks. This conservative trainer mode refuses overlapping ranges, requires source and destination sheets without table or PivotTable metadata, and requires a workbook without dynamic arrays. X is a local trainer dialog shortcut, not a verified native Excel accelerator. Skip Blanks is limited to Values in ordinary Free Practice. Formula transpose and external clipboard attributes are not implemented. Paste Link is a separate ordinary Free Practice subset: current internal Copy, same-sheet disjoint source-sized rectangle, absolute references and unchanged destination styles. Preview and explicit Apply are required; no cross-sheet links or tiling.

Values arithmetic (Multiply, Add, Subtract and Divide) requires stable workbook identities and ordered Undo. Enable workbook features, then copy the factor again. Existing paste modes remain available.

Create practice PivotTable summary

This is a fixed-source teaching summary, not the full Excel PivotTable designer.

Source
Accounts payable!A1:E4 (all three invoice records, including filtered rows)
Destination
Rows
Status
Values
Sum of Amount

Source records stay unchanged. Undo reverses creation. Arbitrary ranges, destinations and field lists are not implemented.

Format Cells

Sample

Practice subset: en-US display, 0–8 decimals. Free Practice supports USD, EUR, GBP, JPY or no symbol; display only, no currency conversion. Other modes retain USD. Accounting uses aligned symbols, parentheses and zero dashes. Scientific uses a signed exponent with at least two digits; custom format codes and locale variants are not implemented. Mixed selections keep untouched properties.

Date and Long Date: Gregorian whole-day serials 367–2958465 (1901–9999); Long Date uses fixed English names. Time: numeric serials from 0 up to 2958466, fractional day shown as 24-hour HH:mm:ss rounded to seconds; whole days discarded. No date/time text parsing, 1900/1904 calendar parity or elapsed durations. Text applies to future direct entries and external plain-text paste; existing values/formulas are unchanged. Switching away or Clear Formats does not convert stored literals. Internal clipboard retains source types. These new presets are learning/Free Practice only; competitive admission is unchanged.

Create Table

From one cell, the lab proposes its bounded current region. Review or edit the range below; your worksheet selection and data stay unchanged until you confirm.

Bounded lab: supply unique text headers, at least two columns and one data row within A1:L40. One table per sheet outside the fixed Accounts payable register. No automatic headers, resizing, structured references, calculated columns or total rows. Table styling is a visual overlay; original cell formatting is preserved.

Find and Replace

Bounded lab: literal text, current sheet, by rows. Find skips hidden cells; Replace refuses hidden targets. No wildcards (* ? ~), workbook-wide search or format matching. Calculated values are unformatted, not Excel display-text matching. Replace edits raw entries only.

Protect Sheet

This training setting blocks editing all cells. Selecting cells remains allowed. Passwords, per-cell permissions and encryption are not implemented.

Rename worksheet

Formulas update to the new name. Rename is saved immediately; rename back to reverse it.

Tester build 0.99.7. Focus the sheet first. The target is a Windows desktop keyboard and the classic expanded Windows Microsoft 365 ribbon. This is a bounded practice simulator, not Microsoft Excel or complete Excel compatibility. Draw and Automate visibility varies by device, version and license. Disabled and reference-only commands do not execute. Supported Windows ribbon sequences work only when the browser delivers the keys; other operating systems and browser shortcuts can differ.

Practice data is synthetic. Do not paste confidential or personal information. Workbooks and local course progress are saved only in this browser on this site when storage is available. Optional private metadata saves require separate account consent. Clearing site data or using private browsing can lose progress; another browser, device or site address does not carry it over. This tester build adds no feedback collection or third-party analytics; send feedback separately to your test coordinator.

Known shortcut limit: On Linux, native Ctrl+Shift+U while editing can be intercepted and insert a u instead of expanding the Formula Bar. Use the visible Expand/Collapse control. Windows-native editor delivery has not been certified. For worksheet navigation, keep browser full-screen on and focus the workbook before Ctrl+PageUp / Ctrl+PageDown; F11 again exits full-screen. Browser/OS interception is not a wrong answer.

Windows browser practice: Press F11 for full-screen practice. Press F11 again to return to your normal browser window. Then use Ctrl+PageUp / Ctrl+PageDown to move between worksheets. F11 controls browser full-screen, not Excel; behavior can vary by browser/device.

Created tables: From a data cell in an unfiltered table, Ctrl+A selects data, then data plus headers. Ctrl+Space selects column data, then data plus its header (at least two data rows). Header-origin, filtered or hidden data, collapsed groups, arbitrary multi-cell selections and single-row column cases keep the existing current-region/worksheet fallback, as do later presses; this is not verified table parity.

Navigation scope: ordinary-range Ctrl+A uses plain contiguous data regions; created-table selection is limited to the cases above. Summary and irregular-region stages are not modeled. Ctrl+End uses current modeled values/formatting, not Excel’s historical used-range cache. Page keys use the bounded visible viewport; exact native pixel alignment and grouped-sheet selection are not implemented.

Browser, OS and screen-reader settings can affect key delivery. Use Ctrl+PageUp/PageDown while the workbook is focused. The app leaves F11 to your browser and requests no fullscreen or keyboard-lock permission. For an unmodified-key alternative, finish or cancel an edit, press F6 to leave the grid, then Tab to a worksheet tab and use Left/Right, Home/End, or Enter/Space. That browser interception is not a wrong answer. Toolbar controls and the name box provide equivalent routes. Clipboard copy uses an internal buffer; external tab-separated paste is also supported. Results and formula behavior are checked, not a single required keystroke sequence. Scores measure task outcomes, not certified Excel shortcut mastery. Clicking workbook controls marks the attempt as assisted. Press Escape to return focus to the sheet. Keyboard exercises block pointer worksheet selection and sheet-tab switching; the optional Challenge also blocks toolbar pointer actions; the name box and formula bar remain editable by keyboard.

Copy from above (US Windows keys): Ctrl+' stages the exact formula above without shifting references; Ctrl+Shift+" stages its calculated number or text. Trainer policy: select one grid cell, then Enter commits the pending draft or Escape cancels. Existing editor drafts are not replaced. Formula mode requires a formula source; value mode does not support blank, logical or error results. Hidden/protected and dynamic-array contexts are unavailable. No clipboard is used; browser/OS shortcut delivery may differ.

Go To: Ctrl+G or bare F5, Home → Find & Select → Go To, or Search opens a current-sheet Reference dialog. Only A1:L40 cells and rectangles are supported. No history, names, qualified/absolute references, disjoint selections, spill # or Special. Open/Cancel preserve pending text; OK checks the target before committing a valid draft. Hidden interior cells are not excluded from a rectangle.

Repeat formatting (F4): In grid mode, repeat the prior applied Bold, Italic, Underline, Wrap Text, alignment or Clear Formats value. Home → Format → Repeat formatting and Search commands are equivalent. This bounded trainer repeats applied values, not toggles; other actions are unavailable. Editing F4 still cycles formula reference locks. Finish pending edits first. Repeat intent is session-only and clears after other successful edits, Undo/Redo or worksheet/course changes. Browser/OS or Fn/F-Lock settings may intercept F4. No clipboard is used.

Manual Row Height: Home → Format → Row Height, Alt then H, O, H, or Search commands. Trainer input is 17.25–180 points, converted at 96 CSS px per inch to 23–240 CSS px. Excel’s wider range and 15-point default are not offered. Zero does not hide rows here. Fixed heights can clip wrapped text; AutoFit recalculates an estimate.

Clear Formats: Home → Clear → Clear Formats, Alt then H, E, F (English Windows trainer target), or Search commands. Removes supported cell styles only; formulas/data and stored dimensions stay. Unset Wrap height estimates may shrink. Conditional formatting and native table-style overlays are unavailable. Clear All is not implemented.

Conditional Formatting — cell rules

Top/Bottom N ranks finite typed numbers only (N: 1–1000). Cutoff ties are included, so more than N cells may match. This simulator tie policy is not verified against native Excel. Percentage rules are unsupported.

Free Practice only. Rules recalculate from supported formula results and cell values. Numeric comparisons match numbers only. Text contains is case-insensitive literal text: no wildcards, regular expressions or number/Boolean coercion. Blank means an empty cell or empty text (including a formula returning empty text); whitespace counts as nonblank. Nonblank includes text, numbers and Booleans. Errors and unsupported results match neither Blank nor Nonblank. First matching rule wins the whole color preview; no task credit is awarded. This is the supported trainer policy, not every Excel rule type.

Rules belong to this worksheet's fixed addresses. Clipboard, Painter and Cell Styles transfer base formatting only. Clear Formats resets base formatting; use this manager to remove rules. Clear rules before structural, visibility, table, merge or dynamic-array changes.

    Add or edit a rule123

Merge — review contents to clear

Excel merges keep the top-left content and discard other selected contents. Cancel keeps everything. This simulator asks before clearing nonempty covered cells; unmerging afterward does not recover their contents — use Undo.

Text to Columns — delimited text

Plain Free Practice, one source column, up to 40 rows and 12 output columns. Each cell is one record. Source formulas, fixed-width parsing, dates, locale separators and owned/filtered geometry are not supported.

Text is the safe default: leading zeros and formula-like text stay literal. General converts only safe plain decimals, preserving leading-zero identifiers as text. Number explicitly converts plain decimals and removes leading zeros; unsafe integer precision is refused. No imported field is evaluated as a formula. Existing destination formatting is retained. Blank fields clear destination contents. Repeated delimiters create empty fields; qualifiers must surround the whole field.

    Output column types

Local CSV import — delimited text

Local UTF-8 files only, up to 256 KiB, 40 records and 12 columns. Output must fit A1:L40. Double-quoted fields support delimiters, escaped double quotes and embedded newlines. Short records are padded with blank fields. Use synthetic practice data, not confidential or personal information. No network connections or upload. Fixed-width parsing, dates, locale separators and owned/filtered geometry are not supported.

    Text qualifier: double quote (")

Text is the safe default: leading zeros and formula-like text stay literal. General converts only safe plain decimals, preserving leading-zero identifiers as text. Number explicitly converts plain decimals and removes leading zeros; unsafe integer precision is refused. No imported field is evaluated as a formula. Existing destination formatting is retained. Blank fields clear destination contents. Repeated delimiters create empty fields; qualifiers must surround the whole field.

    Output column types

    Remove Duplicates

Plain Free Practice only. Compare supported displayed values in the selected key columns; keep the first occurrence. ASCII letter case is ignored, whitespace is not trimmed, and identical displayed numbers/text match. Locale and Unicode case behavior are not certified. Simulator safety limit: a candidate duplicate with different underlying key values sharing the tiny-number General scientific fallback is refused without deleting rows. This fallback is not full Excel General display parity. Unsupported scalar values and number formats are refused; Boolean-looking text must be entered as literal text. Formulas inside the list, tables, merged cells, filtered/hidden/protected or other owned geometry are not supported.

    Columns that must match

Removal affects the entire selected row segment, including non-key data. Kept cell records and formatting move upward; trailing records and formatting are cleared. Cells outside the list do not move. External formulas are not rebased and may return changed results. Preview before confirming; Undo restores the full original cells.

    Data Validation

Plain Free Practice: literal list items and whole-number/decimal bounds. Adding a rule does not change or flag existing content. Date, time, custom formulas, referenced lists and locale collation are not supported. Direct entry and Ctrl+Enter are checked. Copy, paste (including Values), fill and clearing bypass alerts; destination rules remain, source rules are not copied. This bounded paste policy is not full Excel paste parity. Recalculation does not trigger alerts.

List entries use ASCII case-insensitive matching without trimming. Choosing an item inserts literal text, including formula-like items.

    Invalid entry

    Choose a list value

What-If Analysis — Goal Seek subset

Bounded bracket/bisection search, not Excel algorithm parity. Scenario Manager and Data Tables are not supported.

Limits: 128 evaluations, 64 iterations, magnitude ±1e12, absolute residual tolerance 1e-7; 15-second worker timeout. Same-sheet inputs, ordinary visible worksheets only. Invalid Data Validation proposals cannot be overridden.

Insert Clustered Column — bounded subset

Numeric-only columns. No text/Boolean coercion, external or dynamic sources, tables, merges, chart sheets, 3D, drag or resize. Axis ticks and theme are simulator-specific.

    Insert/Delete Cells

Ordinary Free Practice, literal-only workbook and retained history. One rectangle inside A1:L40; no formulas, hidden/frozen or owned geometry. This is a bounded simulator, not full Excel structural editing. Insert refuses any meaningful boundary loss. Delete removes the selected values and formats; Undo restores the full snapshot.

    Advanced Filter — Copy Records

Bounded simulator: ordinary Free Practice, same sheet, A1:L40. Copy to another location; optionally keep unique records only. Include unique nonempty literal headers and at least one data row. With Unique records only checked, all columns are compared and first occurrences stay in order. Duplicate matching uses supported General displays: ASCII letter case is ignored, whitespace is preserved, and ambiguous tiny-number matches are refused. This is not full native Excel parity. Only plain literal entries are supported. No in-place filtering, selected output columns, formulas, owned geometry or formatting copy. Optional literal criteria filter records before optional duplicate removal. Uncheck Unique records only to copy every matching record, retaining duplicates in source order. Source stays unchanged. Destination must be disjoint, empty and unformatted.

Action: Copy to another location (fixed)

Simulator criteria subset: use a separate same-sheet header-and-criteria rectangle. Headers match source column names; repeated headers are allowed. Conditions on one row use AND; different rows use OR. Blank criteria cells add no condition. A typed finite numeric literal means equality. Operator text supports =, <>, <, >, <= and >= with canonical decimal operands. Apostrophe-prefixed numeric text is refused, not coerced. Simple ASCII letter labels with single internal spaces match case-insensitive prefixes; exact text uses a literal entry such as '=Produce (type the leading apostrophe in the worksheet, not in this range box). No wildcards, formulas, text ordering, mixed number/text source columns, non-ASCII text, blank source values in referenced columns or entirely blank criteria rows. Source, criteria and output rectangles must be disjoint. Zero matching records are refused without writing output.

Insert Symbol — small simulator palette

Simulator staging policy: choose one symbol, then Insert into draft. Nothing is saved yet. In the cell editor, Enter commits once; Escape cancels the whole cell edit. This is not Excel’s full font catalogue or a claim of native caret behavior.
